Friggin' Car

Yes, that's right... my *bleep*in' car is in the shop... again. The Curse never ends!

So, I managed to hitch a ride to the Big City from the reserve I was Student Teaching at. Ready to bus the rest of the way, when I missed my bus and I phoned Bo Beri to let her know that I would be catching the next bus, so she wouldn't be waiting forever at the depot for me. Then Opera Queen said she would like to come to the city anyway to get her Maid Of Honour dress fitted (for Posh Spice's wedding in October). So, she and one of her room-mate's would drive my car in, we would spend Saturday night at the bar, and come home Sunday. As a guy I used to know would proclaim, "Gravy!"

The car "stalled" for them on the highway, but it started without fail after a few minutes. It was perfectly fine all throughout the city. After checking out this bar named "Blue Agave", I sobered up. Opera Queen hated it, and said she wanted to go back to our city. And I started thinking, "Hey, why not?". I haven't slept in my own bed in a couple of weeks, and I would like to start organizing (okay, unpacking) the chaos known as my apartment. So, we went back to Posh Spice's place for a bit of an after party. Craziness ensued.... this included group showers and such. I curled up in the living room and waited until everyone was ready to go. About 3:30 a.m., we escaped. Less than a half hour later, we were stranded.

I crossed one bridge, where I saw the last glimpse of civilization retreat into the dark highway, when my RPM's dropped to zero. Then my power steering quit. So, I coasted onto the shoulder, and waited. But, to no avail, the car did not restart. Finally, some old guy stopped with a cell phone and helped us out. Then we phoned Rocko and asked her to phone some of the guys for someone to drive the hour and a half to pick us up. She was drunk, and said to phone back in 5 minutes. So, I phoned to arrange to get my car towed for 7:00 a.m. (since it was almost 5 a.m. at this point, and I wanted our ride to be here when my car would get towed). Everything was arranged. Gravy.

Not so gravy-ish. When we phoned back Rocko, she was so drunk, she thought our phone call had been a dream. After phoning everyone (including Opera Queen's ex), everyone was drunk or not answering. I finally got a hold of my Dad, and then we cuddled in the back seat of my car for a 2 hour nap.

My Dad arrived, the tow truck arrived, and everything moved forward from there. I slept all Sunday, and started school again today. My student loan won't be in for a few more weeks, so I'm stretching less than $100 as far as it can go. I guess it's time to collect some debts.

Lessons learned:
  • I should start leasing brand new cars from now on
  • Get a cell phone for my car in the mean time
  • Don't trust automobiles
  • Don't trust drunk people
  • Get some friends that aren't drunk
  • Lending out money is not an effective way to save money

Better question: If it has less wheels, are you less evil?
