Zelda is a parrot fish that I picked up over 3 years ago from a pet shop in the city where I was attending University. If you asked any of my friends, she has quite the personality. She jumps out of the water to grab food out of your hand, she can do tricks in the water, and she dances when you turn on music and dance with her (no, I kid you not). She is absolutely amazing when you put guppies in the tank and water her hunt them down, one by one. Even though she is only a fish, people (including myself) find her easy to talk to. She is a very social fish.

The past 3 to 4 months, I have been neglecting her. I have been at school, and then hanging out elsewhere. I wasn't even sleeping at home most of the time. I would take 10 seconds with her to feed her, and clean out her pumps every few weeks.

Now, change all of those "is"'s to was. She died less than an hour ago. I put her in a bucket yesterday with some medicine when I finally noticed that she was not well. I cleaned out her tank, boiled all the rocks, and put a tiny bit of sea salt in her water. I was waiting for the water to cool down enough to transfer her back to her tank. During that time, she took her last breath, and I missed it.

She was sick because of bacteria. But she died from a broken heart.

Even though I was afraid of her, I feel your pain. She was pretty...as far as fish go.

Coming from you and your well-known views about fish, that is a huge compliment. Thank you.

I'm so sorry. As much as she freaked me out, staring at me and everything, I must admit, she was pretty cool.
