Surgery time

D's going for spinal surgery on Wednesday.

I p[icked him up from the airport last thursday (20 minutes late, apparently), and he told me that his surgeon slotted him in for Wednesday. Wow. So, I left a message for my principal on Friday that I would be gone for tues-fri. Then I tried to get through the day. Then I packed, because on Saturday, I had to drive 4 hours to another northern town.

I am a kinette (part of Kin Canada). Not only that, but I represent my zone (da north) in all Kinette stuff. So, I had to go since this other town was celebrating it's 60th anniversary in Kinette goodness. I had a good time and all, it was just one more thing I had to do. I got home early this afternoon, and now I am doing laundry and helping D shave his head.

I really don't want to mark. I don't want to prepare for 4 days of substitute teachers who either won't bother teaching, or bother showing up. But, in a perverse way, I kinda looking forward to this. D taught me how to play "Magic" (card game, a la pit style for those who know what I'm referring to) last week, so I'm going to go play cards. And play computer games on a laptop (Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines). And read. And sleep in a hotel. It's sad that I have to go to something serious like surgery to relax.

D has a 90% chance of being "okay". Otherwise, more surgery and pain meds. There is a chance he will lose the use of his left foot. Or death. Cheery stuff, no?

Wow. Serious stuff. Best wishes that all goes well. Would love to see you while you're in the city, but obviously you'll be busy and will be forgiven for not calling.
