SAG weekend

Thursday started at 3 a.m. That is when I got up in the lame attempts to get my marking done and get caught up in the classroom. No such luck, but that wasn't such a big deal. A fraction test followed by the talk to room safety and sacrifice of time when having a child, and that was the morning. Freedom was mine!

I jumped in my car, which is starting to make a ticking noise when I turn left, and did some last minute running around. I quickly packed (packing extra socks and underwear since I seem to always forget those), check on my parents' place, and headed for the City. Realising that 3 a.m. was waaaaay too bloody early to wake up that morning, I had to pull over to the side of the road to have a little nappy. Got in the city around 10 p.m. Briefly visited with my mom (who just returned from Nova Scotia) and Booger and went to bed. Okay, I slept on a pile of couch pillows on the floor.

I awoke at 7 a.m. with a slight backache, but excited to begin my day of Teaching At-Risk Students seminars. Except there was one dilemma: I didn't pack any pants. A quick run to Wal-Mart where I picked up a pair of inexpensive jeans, and I was on my way. The continental breakfast was great, and the guest speaker was even better! The guest speaker, Dr. Stephen R. Sroka, is an amazing guy. He's a white boy growing up the in the black projects, then moving to the white projects and deemed retarded since he spoke differently, being beaten to a bloody pulp in Grade 9 and confined to a wheelchair, learned to walk again, became a doctor, and then became a teacher. Whew! The seminar was about how students who are using drugs, alcohol, and sex are really crying for help, and what could we do as one person. We ran out of time for talking about strategies to implement in a classroom, but something more important was addressed... I found myself becoming re-motivated. Plus, there were the free pens, rulers, and so on. I am such a sucker for free stuff.

Spent the night talking and drinking wine with opera_queen and Posh Spice. Due to time constraints, I never got a chance to visit Special K, Curly Sue, and Penguin. That kind of sucked, and I felt horrid for that. The next morning (Saturday), I dragged myself out of bed (couch) and drove to my old city.

A couple hours later, I had lunch and a visit with my Dad and his gal. Man, do I ever miss those two. After that, I stopped off at Paranoid Twig, Rocko, and Bo Beri's place. I quickly went shopping for a bar shirt (since I forgot to pack that as well... though I had plenty of socks and underwear), and picked up some alcohol. A little more visiting, and a night at the bar. The drinks were flowing and Jo had a wee too much. After puking, I sent her home in a cab. I also ran into Skullet Man and his gal. She is really nice, and I took an immediate liking to her. Even better, they are in love... and all that gross stuff. I am very happy for them, and I felt very content that he was able to find someone worthy of him. Even with all of that, I caught him looking down my shirt. Hey, it's a normal guy reflex, and the shirt I picked out was definitely made to look down! The bar was closing, so I went back to my home for the night and another couch (but this one was amazingly comfortable!).

Woke up early on Sunday. Packed up, and Rockstar and his girlfriend came over. Yes, I finally watched Big Fish! That's what I get for promising the guy that I would first see it with him! And I've owned the bloody thing since July! Yet again, time was not on my side, and my surprise visit to Blondie did not happen. I think I may have to plan a trip to visit the people I didn't get to see during this crazy weekend. I bought a few packages of blood worms for Zelda, and started heading homeward. Of course, I was tired, and ended up taking another nap on the highway... getting home around 11:30 p.m.

I just finished a full day meeting discussing school improvement with my colleagues from the main high school and now I have so much planning and marking, it's insane! But, right now, I'm still feeling pretty good....
